Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society Announces Their Inaugural Year Award Winners.

(Los Angeles, CA – December 19, 2017) – The Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society has announced the winners of their Inaugural LAOFCS Awards. Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water wins Best Picture as well as Best Actress, Best Male Director, and Best Score. Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird wins Best Independent Film, Best Female Director, and Best Performance by an Actor or Actress 23 and Under.

The Los Angeles Film Online Film Critics Society’s first annual awards ceremony honoring excellent films and filmmaking in 2017, will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles. Individual Awards will be handed out to each of the winners at the event.

Krisily Kennedy, Scott Mantz, and Scott Menzel founded the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society in late 2016. The primary goal of the society was to create a critics group that appropriately reflects a varied history and perspective of people from various races and gender.   1. Thank you !!! Finally, some group figured out the solution … a Best Female Director Award and a Best male Director Award.

    10 years (or so) from, we’ll be able to narrow it back to “Best Director”.

    We still need Best Male Costume Designer and a Best Female Costume Designer awards, but maybe net year.

    Best Blockbuster Film Award is great as well, to try and satisfy (somewhat) the peoples’ choice type film fan.

    But before we eventuate to an award for everyone (kind of like your 5 year-old’s soccer team players), we should revert back to “Best of” (in about 10 years). That would include Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (no Male / Female duplicated awards).
